THE IMA FOUNDATION

The Ima Foundation aims to support the people of Israel by investing in their future. Its work focuses on education, the most important vehicle for narrowing the country's social and economic gaps, and on mental health and well-being, which are critical to strengthening the resilience of individuals and communities. Together, these efforts help ensure Israel's place among the world's leading nations.

In 2003, to advance its philanthropic presence in Israel, the Foundation established the Ima Foundation as its regional office in Tel Aviv.

The inspiration for the Ima Foundation began with the family’s beloved matriarch, Aviva Golbahar Nazarian, fondly known as "Ima." She led two full lives, filled with love, compassion, and aspiration: in Iran, where she married, lost her husband at a young age, and raised two sons as a single mother and seamstress; and in Israel, where she was a wife, grandmother, hospital volunteer, friend, and neighbor. Wherever she was, Ima touched the lives of many through her kindness, her strength, and her perseverance.

Her love of Israel and her joy for life left a deep imprint on all who knew her. As a symbol of their love for her, Younes (z"l, of blessed memory) and Soraya Sarah Nazarian and their family established the Ima Foundation in her honor, carrying her legacy forward.

With longstanding relationships across key educational, mental health, and arts institutions, the Ima Foundation serves as a catalyst for meaningful impact and lasting change in Israel.
